Fed up with plastic grips that would chip or crack in combat, the Turkish Army changed over to an aluminum grip for the M5 Bayonet as used with the Garand Rifle that they used since the Korean War. The end result is a really solid bayonet with a weathered profile that is unique and provides an ‘almost soldier proof’ damage free grip. Used for Turkish Honor Guards too. Feels solid, looks rugged.

Turkish M5 bayonet w/aluminum scales
These bayonets are well used. The aluminum scales are worn smooth near the rear, as depicted in the SARCO picture. The blade has numerous nicks, but appears unsharpened. The guard was a little loose, and the inside of the scales was caked with dried oil & powder residue. After a soaking & scrubbing, I installed some thin shim-stock behind the guard, under the scales. I removed the locking mechanism, since I plan to use this as a field knife. Once cleaned & tightened, I wrapped some para cord around the grip just behind the guard. Very happy with the result, & I would definitely buy again at this price.
