Nice checked buttplate
These are really nice checkered buttplates for any type of the 1903 Springfield rifles.
I’ve gotten more than just a few of these. I’ve been putting Sporterized 1903 / 1903A3 Springfield and 1917 Enfield rifles back to more original configurations since 1985 as a hobby.
The first one was actually at what was like the largest gun show in the world at the LA County fair grounds in Southern California which was the Great Western Gun Show, 12 to 19 miles of tables in like ten buildings and everywhere in between with chilly cook offs, live bands, the US military, vintage air craft and just about everything military, cowboy and gun related that you could ever think about. It was a completely different world then today. It was a great time. Hand guns had a two day wait time back then, so you could legally buy a hand gun on Friday and pick it up on Sunday. All long guns were cash or trade and carry. It was a golden area. Then the LA County Democrats figured out that it was being held on LA California County land so they shut it down. The last show was in 2000 and of course I was there.
Before the ten 1903’s, two 1917’s and a few 98 Mauser’s that I’m working on right now I’ve had thirteen 1903 Springfield’s and two 1917 Enfield’s that I brought back from being sporterized to an original configuration that I’ve traded off for other guns or sold to friends all to those who kept them for there own collections.
But back to these checkered buttplate’s I’ve used quite a few of them over the years because when you shooting a bolt action rifle in 30-06 you want it to stay in your shoulder to absorb the recoil.
Yes I definitely recommend them.
If there was a way to include pictures I would have. -
1903 Springfield post WWI fine checkerd butt plate.
This is the second one I have purchased from SARCO. Both items are brand new post 1920, Parkerixed butt plates. Pre- WWI checkered butt plates were blued. Very nice item to have when refurbishing a later 1903 as most were replaced with the smooth butt plates during WWII and post war rework.
