This DOT 1944 Sniper rifle is most likely made in late 1943 to early 1944 based on date codes; it has a stamped trigger guard that is subcontracted by "LU" which has very little data but has some researchers thinking it was a German canning company called (LUBECA werke Grupp, Wilhelm, Oberkochern). This trigger guard is correct to 1944 rifle and the sniper variant. The cupped buttplate on this sniper rifle is marked 'gqm' 43 which is another subcontractor called (Lock and Hartenberger Metallwarenfabrik, Idar- Oberstein) and matches references to sniper rifles of this time period. The rifle sports Eagle/ 63 acceptance stamps and all numbers match minus the rifing pin. It also has an original sling and a duv Eagle/214 date coded ZF41 scope mount which is a second style beveled roller edge mount. The rifle you see has a short 1.5 x Zielfernrohr 41 or ZF41/1 scope attached. This is scope is a late war repaired scope that does have some minor clouding, but is still functional plus comes with its original metal scope case. The ZF41/1 is shown to be a last run or repaired service scope. The rifle finish is great however the stock has been lightly sanded. This 98's stock is laminated which is correct to the date codes for sniper rifles.
