| The Browning Arms Company was founded in 1878 by John Moses Browning, one of the most famous firearms designers in history. The company continues to design firearms to this day. Browning’s designs have historically been manufactured under the license of other companies. When the Germans occupied Belgium they gained control of FN, a manufacturer of Browning Hi-Power pistols, while Allied forces continued to be supplied by Canadian manufacturer John Inglis and Co. This made the Hi-Power unique as it was used by both Allied and Axis forces.
