Japanese Type 99 Long Rifle Cleaning Rod, @29 3/16"

According to my research, since my Type 99 has a square cleaning-rod release button this should be the cleaning rod to fit my rifle. I disassembled the gun to check for stoppages but there is simply not enough room in the tube for it: the rod's sheath stops before it reaches the first screw in the bottom of the stock. This cleaning rod - if it were to be inserted all the way - would reach well past the internal magazine, which I am certain is not supposed to be possible on the Type 99. Not sure if this is from my own incompetence, but there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with the rod nor my gun. The rod should work fine for cleaning my gun though - it just won't fit in the gun for storage sadly.
